Bronx, NY----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team ended the 2024 campaign on Tuesday, falling to Lehman College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22), in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed, Brooklyn closes out the season with a 12-15 overall record while No. 4 Lehman improves to 11-14 and will take on No. 1 Baruch in the semifinals on Thursday. BC finishes the season with two more wins than last year and a .500 record in conference play compared to .286 in 2023.
How It Happened
- Lehman set the tone early in the first set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead and keeping a comfortable advantage to go up 1-0.
- Trailing 7-2 in the second set, BC responded with a 4-0 run sparked by an Armand Kaloshi kill and eventually tied the set, 9-9. However, the Lightning took the lead for good thanks in part to a seven-score rally that Bulldogs couldn't recover from.
- Brooklyn wouldn't go away easily, taking a 22-21 lead late in the third set after three straight scores capped by a Jiaian kill. Lehman wouldn't break and closed out out the match with a four-score rally.
- The home team was more efficient on the night offensively, hitting .260 to the Bulldogs' .071.
- Alain Esteva led the way for Lehman with a team-high 12 kills and came up with 9 digs.
For the Bulldogs
- Aaron Siu closed out a strong freshman season with a team-high 8 kills, 9 digs, and a pair of aces.
- Armand Kaloshi added 7 kills and came up with 7 digs.
- Aziz Abdusamiev put away five kills and finished with a pair of blocks at the net.
