Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College softball team closed out the 2024 Season on Day 1 of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament hosted at BC Field on Thursday. Entering the tournament as the No. 4 seed, Brooklyn fell in the first game of the day, 11-0 (5 Innings), to top-seeded John Jay. The Bulldogs were eliminated in the third game of tournament, falling to No. 3 Baruch, 7-3. BC ends the 2024 campaign with an 11-17 overall record after qualifying for the postseason conference tournament for the second straight year.
In Game 1, John Jay jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on three hits. The Bloodhounds added three more runs in the second inning and took a 6-0 lead while John Jay starting pitcher, Lindsay Ogden, threw perfect back-to-back innings.
Brooklyn starting pitcher,
Danielle Guzzardi, pitched a scoreless third inning after yielding a leadoff single.
The Bloodhounds went back to work offensively in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs including a 2-RBI single hit by Jailene Santiago.
Brooklyn senior infielder,
Zoey Van Vleet, managed the Bulldogs' lone hit off of Ogden in the top of the fifth inning.
Baruch struck first in the third game of the day, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks in part to a 2-RBI single hit by Mia Faddah. The Bearcats extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning that included a double hit by Bridget Campanelli.
The Bulldogs rallied in the top of the fifth inning beginning with a
Dasha Goodman leadoff walk. Catcher,

Van Vleet drove Rodriguez home with an RBI single the next at-bat, cutting Baruch's lead to 4-2. However, Baruch starting pitcher, Caroline Galagher, would get out of trouble with no-outs, getting a force at second base, a runner caught stealing, and then a pop-out.
Baruch responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs on five hits including a 2-RBI double hit by Carly Quint.
Brooklyn didn't go away in the top of the sixth inning, as freshman infielder,
Paige Palacios, led off with a walk. Palacios would eventually score on a two-out double cracked by sophomore infielder,
Melanie Millan. However, the Bearcats would get out of the inning on the next batter.
Guzzardi pitched all six innings, yielded nine hits, and was charged with four of the Bearcats' runs.
