PATCHOGUE, NY ------ Coming into their non-conference match, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team would face a St.Joseph's-Long Island University Golden Eagles team that had an identical record of 4-4. Brooklyn's winning streak was put on the line and would come to an unfortunate end in three sets, [10-25, 19-25, 15-25]. BC moves to 4-5 overall while the Golden Eagles improve to 5-4. The Bulldogs look to bounce back as they set to travel in the Brooklyn borough for a tri-match at St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn. Coverage begins on Saturday, September 21st at 1pm in the first match against, before facing the host at 3pm.
Brooklyn started off slow in the opening set, but gained some momentum heading into the second. However, the Bulldogs weren't able to overcome the early deficit, coming within as close as nine points.
Brooklyn fought back in the second set taking their first lead of the match thanks to a joint effort on the blocking end by
Ayatallah Elkotby and
Danielle Fuxman to make it 2-1. Elkotby finished with 6 kills, 1 block assist, 5 digs and 1 reception. Fuxman registered the only solo block for Brooklyn to go along with four kills.
The Golden Eagles would go on a 6-0 run eventually to retake the lead and never surrendered it. Just when the Bulldogs would attempt to creep back in as they cut the lead to 20-19, the Golden Eagles would go on another 5-0 run to take Set No. 2, 25-19.
Brooklyn trailed early in the third set, but junior setter,
Amra Mulic, had success on the evening finding teammates on the offensive end, finishing with the match with 12 assists and 17 digs.
Aleah Rafat would have half of her kills in the final set of the match, finishing with a team-high six kills.
