BC Men's Soccer Denied Second Home Game Against Old Westbury

Crossbar Crosses Bulldogs Off The Board

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team looked to bounce back against the Old Westbury Panthers in their second game at home in a row. Throughout their history, games were decided by no more than two goals, and today was no different as the Panthers would defeat the Bulldogs 2-0.

This would not only mark the Brooklyn College Bulldogs' (1-2-0) fourth loss in a row to the College at Old Westbury Panthers (2-1-0) , but also their second consecutive loss at home. With this game, the Panthers improve to a winning record, with their only loss being in their conference, while the Bulldogs have yet to win at home.

Brooklyn had their first big chance early on in the first half, where George Koufos would come knocking on the door of Old Westbury with a shot that hit the top of the woodwork in 18'.

Old Westbury would respond back with a shot down the bottom center that would be saved by Brooklyn's Brian Perea. The pressure from Old Westbury would pay off seconds later, as their freshman, Henrik Ropstad, would steal the ball and score his first goal of the night all alone in 32'.

Not too long after, a beautiful combination by the Panthers would leave the Bulldogs defenseless. Christian Mathurin would kick a through pass to Jessi Vasquez, who would proceed to cross it into the box to Ropstad for his second goal of the day in 39'.

The Bulldogs would not go without a fight in the second half, getting three shots at scoring in the first fifteen minutes, including a kick by Adan Khodorkovsky that hit the top woodwork in 58'.

Brooklyn's George Koufos struck again with a shot to the top of the goal that would be saved by the Panthers' goalie, Andy Chacho in 67'. Koufos had both of the Bulldogs 2 shots on goal and 4 total shots on the day.

In a relatively quiet second half, the College at Old Westbury would have another solid chance, but it would be Brooklyn's Brian Perea with another save on the bottom left in 70'. Perea would finish with 3 saves and 2 goals against, both in the first half.

The Brooklyn College men's soccer team will travel on the road for a long stretch, starting on Monday, September 9th, when they travel to face the University of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York at 7pm.
