BC Women's Volleyball Wins Fourth Conference Game

Bulldogs End Losing Streak Against Lightning

THE BRONX, New York ------ Coming into their conference play once again, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team would stay on the road to face a fighting Lehman College Lightning. The travel by itself is excruciating, but they needed to find a way to end their losing streak. The Bulldogs would pull it off as they would beat their opponents in three sets [25-9, 25-17, 25-11] in convincing fashion to further cement their place in the CUNYAC standings.

With the victory, the Brooklyn College Bullodgs (10-13, 4-2 CUNYAC) are slowly ready to clinch a playoff spot with the possibility to host, while the Lehman College Lightning (3-12, 1-3 CUNYAC) still have a glimmer of hope despite the loss.

Brooklyn would start off strong, scoring the first four points of the game, and would not look back after a couple of runs. However, the biggest run would be led by Ella Snobar, who, after a 16-6 lead, would go on to spark a run of seven straight points, to take a 23-6. Brooklyn would eventually close it off 25-9, after Lehman tried a run of their own. Ella Snobar would end the game with 8 kills, two digs, and 1 block assist.

The Bulldogs would take an early lead and maintain it, but with the Bulldogs up 15-11, the Lightning would come storming back with six straight points to take their first lead at 17-15. Needing to retake the lead, the team would turn to Malia Reyes as the server, hitting two aces and one assist in the process, kicking off a 10-0 run to take the set 25-17. Malia Reyes would have 10 assists, 4 aces, and 4 digs.

Saule Okeke-Ziburkus would help Brooklyn expand their lead in the third set, scoring four kills on her own and leading Brooklyn to go on an 8-0 run to go up 12-3. Thanks to that, Brooklyn would never look back, going on to win the set and game 25-11. As the main threat on offense, Saule Okeke-Ziburkus would have 8 kills, 6 aces, and 2 digs.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team heads to Madison, New Jersey to play a tri-match in a rematch with the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders and the hosts, FDU-Florham Devils, on Saturday, November 1st at 11:00am.
