Glassboro, NJ----Winners of their last three matches heading into Saturday, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped both matches at a non-conference trimatch hosted by Rowan University. DeSales University defeated the Bulldogs, 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-17) in the neutral match of the day before host, Rowan, won their second match of the day, beating Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 27-25). BC moves to 7-8 overall with the non-conference losses. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back in conference play at Baruch on Tuesday, 10/7, at 6pm.
DeSales jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start Brooklyn's first match of the afternoon. The Bulldogs hung in with DU in the early stages of the second set, grabbing an 11-10 lead following a kill put away by
Olive Carroll. However, DeSales responded with a 5-1 run to take the lead for good. DU opened the third set with a 9-0 run that the Bulldogs weren't able to recover from.
Ella Snobar led Brooklyn with a team-high 6 kills and a pair of block assists.
Ruti Joshi finished with a team-high 13 digs and a served up two aces against DeSales.
In the Bulldogs' second match of the afternoon, Rowan rallied for five straight scores to take the first set before jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the second set. Brooklyn was resilient in the third set, despite trailing 9-3 early on. Trailing 20-16, BC put together a four-score rally to tie the set, 20-20, sparked by a Snobar kill. Brooklyn would rally for four more points to take a 24-23 lead highlighted by a Carroll kill. The Bulldogs would then take a 25-24 advantage before Rowan denied the Bulldogs a fourth set by scoring the last three points of the match.
Danielle Fuxman, Snobar, and Carroll led Brooklyn offensively with four kills each.
Ayatallah Elkotby finished with five blocks for the match.
Malia Reyes led BC on the ground defensively with 12 digs.
