BC Men's Soccer Drops CUNYAC Semifinal Heartbreaker to Lehman in Overtime, 1-0

Bulldogs End Season At Home Via Lightning Golden Goal

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into the CUNYAC Semifinal matchup, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team would host the semifinal match after earning a bye as the number one seed in the conference. In their way was the only team to have defeated them during the regular season: the Lehman College Lightning, who came in as the number four seed. The game would be very intense, going all the way to overtime. Unfortunately, the result would repeat as the Bulldogs would drop the match on a golden goal to end the game 1-0 just a minute into overtime.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (10-7-1, 5-1-1 CUNYAC) will go on to lose their first game at home all season, after going unbeaten during the regular season with seven wins. The Lehman College Lightning (10-2-4, 3-2-2 CUNYAC) go on to face the City College of New York Beavers in the championship next week, riding a three-game win streak.

Brooklyn's Wilson Munoz would make the first key save of the game, making a diving save to his bottom right to keep the score leveled 0-0 at 15'.

Late into the first half, Lehman would have their best chance at scoring with a shot from right outside the box hitting the top woodwork, keeping the score tied 0-0 at 42'.

The Bulldogs would have a solid chance of their own, as Andrew Gavrilov would take a shot to the top left, which would be saved by the Lightning goalie at 43' to send it to a corner kick.

Both sides would split possession at the midfield, yet Brooklyn would create another scoring opportunity late in the second half, but Emir Imamberdiev would be turned away at the bottom left of the net at 83'.

The Lightning would scare the Bulldogs later in the second half off an attack from the left side, which would find a striker inside the box, who would put it away. However, the goal would be annulled and called an offsides at 86', to keep the score even and send it to overtime.

Lehman would kick off first, pushing their attack very early on to earn a corner kick at 90'. The box would be occupied by the majority of players, making it look like a can of sardines trying to find space. As the kick flew from the right side of the goalie, one of Lehman's players would miss a header, but that miss would cause the focus to shift for Brooklyn's defense, leading to the golden goal to end the game 1-0 at 91' off the left post, leaving the hearts of the home crowd shattered in shock.

The men's soccer team has a lot to look forward to next season, as they proved they can be a competitive team, making it all the way to the semifinals as a number one seed in Nathan Bell's first year as head coach. Hopefully, the broken hearts and stunned silence in the crowd from this year could change for next season.
