BC Men's Volleyball Take Down CCNY At Home

Bulldogs Win Third Conference Game

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into Thursday night's men's volleyball game, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs looked to get their third conference victory of the season after a previous victory in their last game. Though the City College of New York Beavers but up a fight with each set that passed, Brooklyn would prevail in three sets despite the scares [25-16, 25-18, 25-22]. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (7-11, 3-3 CUNYAC) improve in the conference standings and in their overall record, while the City College of New York Beavers (2-12, 1-6 CUNYAC) fall despite a valiant effort on their part.

How It Happened

Brooklyn would set the tone in the first set with a ace served by David Lema to strike first, but CCNY would strike back to tie it for the first of six tied scores. With the score knotted at 9-9, Brooklyn would score the next four points, going on a 7-1 run. Though CCNY would try and cut into the lead, another Brooklyn run would further extend the lead with a 5-0 run, eventually taking the first set 25-16.

The second set would have the Beavers trying to get back in it, taking advantage of serving first to score the first two points, but not before the Bulldogs would go on a 5-0 run that would propel them to keep the lead throughout the set. Joaquin Calderon would be a catalyst to that run and would be the one to seal it with a 25-28 score.

The third set would start similarly, featuring six tied scores in the process. With the Beavers creeping back in and cutting the lead to one, the Bulldogs  would bring Aaron Siu back into the game, creating some separation with some kills and a pivotal service ace to help Brooklyn sweep CCNY after a tight 25-22 score in the final set.

For the Bulldogs

  • Siu had 10 kills, 1 ace and 3 digs to lead the attack.
  • Calderon was right behind with 9 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, and 2 digs.
  • Dion Csikortos had a leading 19 digs on defense to go with 3 assists.
  • Lema would tally up 39 assists to go with 7 digs, 1 kill and 1 ace

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team goes across the borough to face the Medgar Evers College Cougars on Tuesday, March 11th at 6:00pm.
