BC Women's Soccer Stopped At Home Against Penn State Brandywine

Bulldogs Go Shot for Shot But Can't Score Against Nittany Lions

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into the third game of a three-game homestand, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team would find themselves face to face with a new opponent in the Penn State Brandywine Nittany Lions. In their first clash ever, the Bulldogs were bested at home by a score of 3-0 despite having various attacks. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-4-0) have now lost the last three games at home and in general, while the Penn State Nittany Lions (3-1-0) continue to have a solid outing to start off their season.

Brooklyn would come out cleats blazing, pressing up front with Alyssa Hardison, who forced a save to the goalie's bottom left at 5'. A few seconds later, Julissa Chino would begin leading the charge with three shots, including the one on target to force Penn State Brandywine's goalie to make a save at the bottom center of the goalposts half a minute after Hardison's shot.

Despite this, the Nittany Lions would be the ones to get on the board first after a clearance from the Bulldogs defense was intercepted for a direct shot to make it 1-0 at 25'.

The second half saw Penn State Brandywine putting the offensive pressure, forcing corner after corner to no avail until a cross that was broken up led to a rebound that forced a pass back for a hard shot outside the box that would go into the net for the 2-0 score at 58'.

Despite the lead, April Hartje would have her work cut out for her, breaking up corner kicks and making saves left and right. Hartje would deny two shots, but unfortunately one would bounce out to a Nittany Lion that would put it away off the rebound for the 3-0 lead at 80'.

The score would end 3-0, but the bulldogs gave a solid effort, taking 9 shots as a team with 4 on target, while facing 12 shots, 9 on target, with 6 of them saved by April Hartje in the process.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team will begin their four-game road-trip against the Centenary University Cyclones on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00pm.
