Kings Point, NY----The Brooklyn College women's volleyball dropped their first loss of the season, falling at the US Merchant Marine Academy, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19), on Thursday. BC moves to 1-1 with the non-conference loss while the Mariners improve to 2-1. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back on the road at Farmingdale State on Tuesday, 9/9 at 6pm.
After falling in the first set, 25-14, the Bulldogs battled early in the second set, taking a 12-9 lead after a block and then a kill put away by freshman outside hitter,
Saule Okeke-Ziburkus. However, the Mariners turned the tide beginning with a five-score rally to take a 15-13 lead.
Brooklyn scored the first two points of the third set beginning with a kill put away by freshman outside hitter,
Olive Carroll. With Brooklyn clinging to an 11-10 lead after another Carroll kill, USMMA would retake the lead for good beginning with four unanswered scores.
USMMA hit .119 to BC's -.026 for the match.
Okeke-Ziburkus and Carroll led the way on the offensive attack finishing with 6 kills each. Carroll also came up with 10 digs on the evening. Senior setter,
Amra Mulic, served up a match-high 3 aces to go along with 8 assists and a team-high 12 digs. Junior middle,
Olivia Fan, finished with a team-high 3 blocks.
