BC Men's Swimming & Diving Makes Strong Stand at Division II Staten Island

Bulldogs Make Waves In Close Encounter With Dolphins

STATEN ISLAND, New York ------ In a clash of land versus sea, the Brooklyn College men's swimming and diving team would go across the Verrazano for a battle with the College of Staten Island Dolphins. Though the Bulldogs would give fans hope, showing promise, and plenty of bite the Dolphins would ultimately secure the victory, as Brooklyn College would drop the meet by a score of 154-113.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (8-2) end the regular season with a winning record, losing their first meet on the road after previous success, while the College of Staten Island Dolphins (5-5) even their record and bounce back after losing a meet with a familiar conference opponent in the Baruch College Bearcats.

Michael Kravets would be the swimmer of the day in this event, first pulling a narrow upset with a time of 1:50.94, beating the favorite for this event by nearly a whole second in Event 4's 200 yard freestyle.

Andrew Woo would win the 50 yard breaststroke by just over two seconds with a time of 27.34 in Event 8.

In Event 10, it would be Michael Kravets once again with a time of 57.14 in the 100 yard butterfly to take nine points and first place.

Or Volpert would be the fastest swimmer in Event 12 with a time of 22.67 in the 50 yard freestyle. He would proceed to win by fifty-nine hundredths of a second with a time of 51.08, the second upset of the evening, this time in Event 16's 100 yard freestyle.

Being the only swimmer to finish in under a minute, Andrew Woo would continue to shine with a rime of 59.53 in the 100 yard breaststroke in Event 20.

By winning his third event of the day, Michael Kravets would keep the Bulldogs alive with a time of 5:13.71 in the 500 yard freestyle.

Though Anthony King would take first place in Event 28, a time of 55.63 in the 100 individual medley would still not be enough to win, but at the very least they can say they went home fighting.

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's swimming and diving team will prepare for a three day event at the CUNYAC Championships starting on Friday, January 30th in the Bronx, New York.
