Brooklyn's CUNYAC Championship Streak Ends in Conference Tournament Final

BARUCH COLLEGE ARC New York, NY-----Winners of the last five CUNYAC Championships, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team had their reign disrupted on Friday as the top-seeded Bulldogs fell to No. 2 seed, Hunter College, 77-69, in the conference tournament final at Baruch College.  The CUNYAC Regular Season champs move to 23-4 overall with the title game loss while the Hawks improved to 20-7 and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Brooklyn led by as many as nine points, 27-19, in the first half following an Ariel Williams tip-in with 3:32 to go in the second quarter, which capped a 6-0 BC run started by a Brianna Jackson layup.  The Hawks responded with a 9-1 run of their own to cut Brooklyn's advantage to 28-27 by halftime.

Hunter carried their second quarter momentum into the second half as they would take a 44-38 lead with 4:46 to go in the third quarter.  Brooklyn wouldn't go away quietly as Jackson converted a four-point play after being fouled on a three-point make.  Anna Kitch would then tie the game, 44-44, on a fastbreak layup with 3:24 to go in the third quarter.  Jackson gave BC their last lead of the contest, 49-48, after making a pair of free-throws with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter.

The Hawks opened the fourth quarter with five unanswered points.  Brooklyn cut the HC lead to as few as six points, 60-54, after an Ameea Daniel layup with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation, but the Hawks seemed to always have the answer in the fourth quarter, going on to lead by as many as 14 points.

Hunter shot 50.9% (27-53) from the field for the game to BC's 33.3% (25-75).  Tournament MVP, Alexa Charles, finished with a game-high 31 points.  Gianna Henriques added 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.  She also block 8 shots for the game.

Jackson would finish with a team-high 22 points, dished out 4 assists, and came up with 4 steals to be named to the All-Tournament Team.  Senior guard, Dior Dorsey, was also named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 15 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and coming up with 3 steals.  Kitch scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for BC's lone double-double.
