BC Softball Splits With Purchase

Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College softball team picked up a non-conference split with Purchase College at home on Monday at Brooklyn College Field.  PC took Game 1 of the doubleheader, 14-0 (5 Innings), before the Bulldogs bounced back to squeeze out Game 2, 7-6, to end the evening.  BC moves to 5-17 with the split while Purchase goes to 11-7.  Next Up: Brooklyn heads back out on the road on Friday to take on Cairn University with the non-conference tein bill beginning at 1pm.

Brooklyn set the tone early, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. In the opening frame, Katelyn Young delivered an RBI double to right center, while Jazlyn Roberts later reached on an error that allowed another run to score. The Bulldogs added two more in the second inning behind an RBI single from Addy Cook and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Young.

Purchase responded in the third, capitalizing on a Brooklyn error to score three unearned runs and cut the deficit to 4-3. The Panthers continued to apply pressure, taking a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning behind a triple from Natalie Gallo and an RBI single from Sariah Sanchez.

Brooklyn answered in the bottom half of the fifth, tying the game at 5-5 when Haylee Burleigh singled home Aaliyah Vargas.

After Purchase regained a 6-5 advantage in the sixth, the Bulldogs delivered the decisive rally. Roberts drove in the tying run with an RBI double before Victoria Elderbaum followed with a clutch RBI double of her own, giving Brooklyn a 7-6 lead.

From there, Jessica Bowe shut the door in the seventh inning, stranding the tying run on base to secure the complete-game victory.

Bowe (3-4) went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out two. Ava Knox (1-2) took the loss for Purchase.

Brooklyn totaled 11 hits in the contest, led by Young's 3-for-4 performance with two RBI. Elderbaum and Roberts each added two hits and a double, while Burleigh contributed a key RBI single.

Purchase broke through in the second inning and never looked back, plating three runs behind a two-RBI triple from Natalie Gallo and an RBI double from pitcher Bryce Kane. The Panthers then erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a combination of timely hitting and Brooklyn defensive miscues to take a commanding 12-0 lead.

Gallo led the offensive charge for Purchase, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a triple and a double. Sam Christopher added a strong performance with two hits and four RBI, highlighted by a triple in the second inning. Devynn Hernandez chipped in with two hits, three runs scored, and an RBI, while Christiana Bazzini and Mel Harper each recorded multi-hit games.

Kane earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits and struck out two, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Brooklyn managed three hits for the game on singles from Lianna Gonzalez, Addy Cook, and Vida Rodriguez. The Bulldogs threatened in the second and third innings but were unable to push a run across.

Kureshma Dhanraj took the loss for Brooklyn, allowing 14 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits over five innings of work.
