New York, NY----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team exited the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday, falling at John Jay, 3-0, in the quarterfinals. #5 Brooklyn closes out their season with a 14-8 overall record while the #4 Bloodhounds improve to 15-12 and advance to the semifinals on Thursday when they will travel to top-seed, New Jersey City.
The opening set featured a closely contested battle, as neither team was able to establish significant separation. Brooklyn held a late 24-23 advantage; however, John Jay responded with three consecutive points to secure the set, 26-24.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with 10 tie scores highlighting the competitive nature of the frame. John Jay capitalized on key opportunities down the stretch to earn a 25-20 victory and take a two-set lead.
In the third set, John Jay recorded its most efficient offensive performance of the match, posting a .519 hitting percentage. Brooklyn remained within reach early, but the Bloodhounds utilized a late run to close out the set, 25-18, and complete the match sweep.
Offensively, Aaron Siu led Brooklyn with 11 kills and added 10 digs. Joaquin Calderon contributed eight kills and two service aces, while Miguel Trejo recorded 24 assists and seven digs.
For John Jay, Nick Fuentes registered a team-high 10 kills, while Adam Bainey added eight kills on a .375 hitting percentage. Quez Martin also provided an efficient performance with five kills on a .556 hitting percentage.
As a team, Brooklyn posted a .135 hitting percentage compared to .236 for John Jay. The Bloodhounds also held advantages in total blocks (10-4) and service aces (4-2).
