Throggs Neck, NY----The Brooklyn College women's volleyball earned their first win of the season on Thursday, defeating Maritime, 3-2 (25-27, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13), on the road in non-conference play.  BC moves to 1-2 overall on the young season while the Privateers drop to 0-5.  Next Up: BC is back at home on Tuesday, September 15, as they host USMMA at 7pm at the West Quad Center.  

Brooklyn came out strong in the opening set, trading points with the Privateers in a back-and-forth battle. The Bulldogs continued to fight as the score moved deep into extra points, eventually tying the set at 25-25. Maritime answered with the final two points to take the opening frame, 27-25.

The Bulldogs responded immediately in the second set. Brooklyn established an early advantage and continued to pressure the Privateers throughout the frame. The Bulldogs maintained their composure down the stretch, closing out the set, 25-21, to even the match at one set apiece.

Maritime regained the lead with a 25-21 third-set victory, but Brooklyn once again refused to back down. The Bulldogs came out aggressively in the fourth set, with their offense clicking throughout the frame. Brooklyn recorded 15 kills while hitting .281, building momentum and eventually securing a 25-22 victory to force a decisive fifth set.

The fifth set featured another intense battle from start to finish. Brooklyn stayed within striking distance as the teams exchanged points, with Saule Okeke-Ziburkus and Olive Carroll delivering important offensive plays to keep the Bulldogs in contention. With the score tied late, Brooklyn remained composed and produced the final points needed to secure the 15-13 victory and complete the comeback.

Okeke-Ziburkus led the Bulldogs offensively with 19 kills, adding eight digs and two blocks for a team-high 28.0 points. Carroll contributed 10 kills, while Malia Reyes recorded seven kills and finished with a .294 hitting percentage. Olivia Fan added eight kills to goa long with a match-high 7 blocks.  

Rose Kory orchestrated the Brooklyn offense with 21 assists, while Reyes also contributed 18 assists. Mila Servania anchored the back row with a team-high 34 digs, helping the Bulldogs extend numerous rallies, while Stephanie Samulde added 11 digs. Brooklyn finished with 85 digs as a team.

The Bulldogs totaled 49 kills and 47 assists while holding a 17-12 advantage in service aces.
