Union, NJ----The Brooklyn College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match at Kean University, 3-0, on Saturday on the road. BC falls to 0-3-2 overall with the loss while the Cougars improve to 4-3. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back at Penn State Brandywine on September 23.
Kean controlled the opening half, putting 27 shots toward the Brooklyn goal and earning 13 corner kicks. Brooklyn goalkeeper
April Hartje kept the Bulldogs within striking distance early, making several saves before the Cougars broke through in the ninth minute.
All three of Kean's goals came in the opening 28 minutes. Allison Yiu opened the scoring at 9:12, with Stephanie Monroe and Danielle Maher credited with assists. Carly Gleason doubled the advantage at 19:08 off an assist from Maher, before Monroe added Kean's third goal at 27:05.
Despite the early deficit, Hartje continued to battle in goal for Brooklyn, finishing the match with eight saves on 11 shots on target.
The Bulldogs generated their first scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute when
Alondra Vega Varela put a shot on target that was saved by Kean goalkeeper Brooke Ginsberg. Vega Varela finished with a team-high two shots, both on goal.
Brooklyn came out with greater offensive pressure in the second half, recording three shots while holding Kean to eight. Vega Varela tested Kean goalkeeper Caitlin Murphy in the 61st minute, but the attempt was turned away.
Gianna DiPronio and
Krista Strader also recorded second-half shots for the Bulldogs.
Brooklyn finished the afternoon with four shots, including two on goal, while Kean registered 35 shots and 16 corner kicks. Kean was led offensively by Gleason, Yiu and Monroe, who each scored once, while Maher recorded two assists.
