Brooklyn, NY----Trailing 3-0 deep into the first half, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team scored five unanswered goals to complete an epic comeback CUNYAC victory, 5-3, over Medgar Evers at Brooklyn College Field on Wednesday. Picking up their first conference win of the season, BC improves to 4-2-3 (1-1 CUNYAC) while the Cougars suffered their first loss of the season and move to 5-1-1 (1-1 CUNYAC). Next Up: BC will look to keep their momentum going in the right direction as they remain home against Baruch College on Wednesday, October 7, for a conference clash at 4pm. Â
The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole as Medgar Evers struck three times during the opening 31 minutes. Kevin Blackstock Jr. opened the scoring in the fourth minute on a through ball before Shackoneal Myrurrie added goals in the 13th and 31st minutes to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage.
Brooklyn continued to pressure the Medgar Evers defense and finally broke through late in the opening half. Duran Pepic converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to put the Bulldogs on the board.
Just 41 seconds before halftime, Brooklyn cut the deficit to one. Hugo Sauriat finished a feed from Pepic at the 44:58 mark, sending the Bulldogs into the break trailing 3-2.
Brooklyn carried its momentum into the second half.
Just 5:41 into the period, Pepic scored his second goal of the night on an assist from Clermens Devariste to level the match at 3-3.
The Bulldogs continued to generate chances and completed the comeback in the 72nd minute. Sauriat scored his second goal of the contest, converting a header on a cross from Humayd Ali Guard to put Brooklyn ahead, 4-3.
Brooklyn added an insurance goal in the 80th minute when Gustav Krueger found the back of the net off an assist from Lucas Sauco, extending the lead to 5-3.
The Bulldogs held on during the final 10 minutes to secure the comeback victory.
Brooklyn's offense finished with a 25-9 advantage in shots and put 15 attempts on target. The Bulldogs also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Pepic led Brooklyn with two goals and an assist, while Sauriat added two goals. Krueger contributed the final goal, and Devariste, Sauco and Ali Guard each recorded an assist.
In goal, Juan Carlos Solis Cazares made two saves in all ninety minutes of action. Â
