Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College women's tennis team had their Home Opener spoiled on Tuesday as the Bulldogs fell to Purchase College, 6-1, on the Roosevelt Tennis Courts. BC drops to 0-2 to start the season while the Panthers win their season opener. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday, September 15, against St. Joseph's Long Island at 4pm. Â
Purchase took two of the three doubles matches to secure the opening point. Brooklyn's Alexis Goodman and Medina Kuc earned a hard-fought 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Amelia Perlmutter and Alyssa Muschenick.
Purchase answered with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Emma Van Dorpe and Bianka Grzesik defeated Brooklyn's Aniyah James and Amara Stewart, 6-3, while Sadie Killebrew and Lilia Qi posted a 6-0 victory over Kristen Vega and Amar Abdel Gaphar.
In singles action, Brooklyn picked up its lone team point at No. 2 singles. James battled back from her No. 2 doubles loss, to defeat Emma Van Dorpe, 6-1, 7-5, earning an impressive three-set victory and the Bulldogs' lone point of the afternoon.
At No. 1 singles, Purchase's Amelia Perlmutter defeated Alexis Goodman, 6-1, 6-1. Bianka Grzesik earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Medina Kuc at No. 3 singles.
Purchase's Alyssa Muschenick defeated Kristen Vega, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, while Sadie Killebrew posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Amara Stewart at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Lilia Qi defeated Amar Abdel Gaphar, 6-1, 6-0.
