Announced by Brooklyn College Director of Athletics, Recreation, and Intramurals, Bruce Filosa, in January 2019, Dinu Dan has been named Head Coach for the BC Men’s Volleyball team. Dan replaces Joe Contello who was at the helm for the last four seasons.

With college head coaching experience spanning over two decades at all three NCAA levels, Coach Dan most recently served as Head Coach for both the women’s and men’s volleyball programs at Yeshiva University.

Prior to his stint at Yeshiva, Dan was the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and Facility Manager at Centenary University in New Jersey from 2006-2015.  There, he resurrected a program that finished with a 2-24 record in his first season at the helm to a 15-17 mark only three seasons later.  In addition to the teams’ athletic success, Dan’s Centenary squads kept a 3.2 team GPA and participated in a number of community service events under his direction.

Coach Dan’s head coaching experience extends up to the NCAA Division I level serving at the helm of the Long Island University Women’s Volleyball program from 2002-2003.  There, he led the program to its first winning season in nine years while managing a national recruiting, travel, and full athletic scholarships budgets.  His teams would also qualify for the Northeast Conference Championships both seasons, advancing to the championship match in 2002.  The program also excelled off of the court under Dan, earning an AVCA Academic Team Award.

Dan made the move to Division I from Division II Pace University where he served as the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach from 1996-2000.  He would build a national power at Pace in five seasons, leading the team to four consecutive Northeast-10 Championships.  In 1998 and 2000, the team would advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division II Tournament and he would be named Northeast-10 Coach of the Year.  His 2000 team would be inducted into the Pace University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

An accomplished athlete himself, Dan played professional volleyball in his native country, Romania, participating in the national league and a number of European tournaments during his playing career.

Along with his accomplishments as a coach and athlete, Dan has held a number of managerial positions in both the public and private sectors during his career.

Coach Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation Administration from Kean University, where he graduated with Cum Laude honors, in 1996. He received a Master of Arts degree in Leadership and Public Administration from Centenary College in 2014.
