Brooklyn, NY----Announced by Brooklyn College Director of Athletics, Erik Smiles, Frank Marinello has been named Head Coach of the BC softball program.  Marinello replaces Glenn Moore who sat at the helm since 2019 and accepted the head coaching position at Division I Wagner College in the Fall.  Marinello takes over a Bulldog squad that went 12-17 last season and made their first appearance in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament since 2014.

“Frank has had great success building winning softball programs with New York City players at the high school and travel ball levels,” Smiles would say. “He knows the area, he knows the coaches, and he has the ability to really recruit student-athletes to Brooklyn College.”

Coach Marinello arrives on the Bedford Avenue campus from nearby Fontbonne Academy in Brooklyn where he built a perennial high school softball power that had a 376-120 record under his guidance since 2001.  He led the 2013 team to a CHSAA AA title and finished the season as one of the top teams in the state.  During his tenure, he would be named CHSAA Coach of the Year eight times.  In 2022, Marinello was inducted into the Girls Catholic High School Athletics Association Hall of Fame.

“Frank has a high-level knowledge of the game and understands how to pass that knowledge of softball down to his players,” Smiles would add.

In addition to building a program at Fontbonne, he was selected to coach a team in the Senior Mayor’s Cup All-Star game seven times with his squads earning five victories.  He has also served as Head Coach of Empire Fastpitch on the travel ball circuit since 2012.  Between his high school and travel ball teams, Marinello has coached well over 100 players that have gone on to play collegiately.

“I’m looking forward to a new beginning for the Brooklyn College,” Marinello commented.  “I’d like to thank Erik and the search committee for the opportunity to build a program.”

During his time coaching, Marinello has been selected to serve on a number of committees.  From 2005-2021, he served as the Protest Chairman for Brooklyn for the Girls CHSAA.  He would serve as Chairman of the Brooklyn and Queens division in 2022 and 2023.  In addition, he spearheaded an Autism Awareness Tournament that raised $45,000.

“With the resources Brooklyn has both academically and athletically, I’m excited to get to work and lead the program to new heights.”

A Brooklyn native, Coach Marinello has owned and operated various technology-related companies.  He also has a number of patents that have been useful in both business and softball.
