Egzon Gjonbalaj Named November Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month

The Brooklyn College Men’s Basketball team got off to a hot start in the opening month of the 2014-2015 season as the Bulldogs posted a 5-1 record in the month of November.

Junior guard/forward Egzon Gjonbalaj, a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Second Team All-Star last season, played a vital part in BC’s success in the first six games of the season, averaging 19.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

In BC’s season opener on November 15th at Williams Paterson University, Gjonbalaj finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals, as the Bulldogs dropped an overtime thriller, 95-88.

In Brooklyn’s next game, on November 16th at Stevens Institute of Technology, Gjonbalaj recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, to go with six blocks, three assists and a steal, helping to lead the Bulldogs to an 82-67 victory.

Gjonbalaj had the best game of his three-year BC career on the road against New Jersey City University on November 19th, pouring in a career-high 36 points, to go with six rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists.

At the Manhattanville College AJ Buchanan Classic, Gjonbalaj helped lead Brooklyn to a 91-74 victory against host Manhattanville on November 21st, finishing the game with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. In the championship game against The Sage Colleges on November 22nd, Gjonbalaj recorded his second double-double of the month with 13 points and 11 rebounds, to go with six assists, two steals and a block to lead BC’s to a thrilling, 94-90, come-from-behind win in overtime to take home the title.

For his efforts, Gjonbalaj would be named the CUNYAC Player of the Week, for the week ending November 23rd (games including NJCU, Manhattanville and Sage).

In the final game of the month, the CUNYAC opener against The City College of New York (CCNY) on November 25th, Gjonbalaj scored 18 points (all in the second half), to go with five rebounds, three assists and a block, to help lead BC to a 96-70 win.
