McDonnell played a major role in the women’s basketball team’s strong finish, as they won their last two conference games. Playing all four February games, McDonnell contributed 21.5 points per game. That total was more than one-third of the team’s total offensive production over that stretch. McDonnell shot 15-of-35 (42.9 percent) from long distance and grabbed 6.5 rebounds per contest. Perhaps her best all-around game of the season came on February 4th at St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn). In that contest, McDonnell led all scorers with 27 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. She added two assists and two steals to round out an impressive stat line. The team’s head coach, Alex Lang, called Christina, “An explosive scorer who has all-star ability.” Lang continued, “Christina is one of those players who can really get it going and become a nightmare for opposing teams.”

Christina, a Staten Island resident who is the all-time scoring leader at Staten Island Tech, attends Brooklyn College on a Presidential Scholarship. She is a sophomore Exercise Science Major who aspires toward a career in Physical Therapy. Christina, who first earned Student-Athlete of the Month honors in November 2007, is also a member of the Brooklyn College Softball Team.
