The Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball team started off the 2010 season with a bang, winning its first five games of the year. After a disappointing 2009 season (4-19, 1-8 CUNYAC), the Bulldogs finished the first month of 2010 with a 6-4 overall record, while going 3-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Part of the team’s early season success and turnaround can be credited to junior captain Caitlin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY / Midwood), who has also lived up to her role as team captain in providing solid veteran leadership to a young squad that features six new faces this season.
"Caitlin is an outstanding athlete,” said Head Coach Joanne Riggs. “Her contribution to the team is one of the reasons we have been successful this season. Caitlin demonstrates her leadership skills and commitment to the team on a daily basis."
During the month of September, McMullen recorded team-highs in both kills and total blocks with 69 and 13, respectively. On September 7th in Brooklyn’s season opening come from behind victory over non-conference foe Purchase College, 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20), McMullen tallied a game-best 11 kills.
A Psychology major, McMullen is also excelling off the court, sporting a 3.3 GPA in the classroom.
