Senior Ashley Allen had a busy month of March splitting her time between two-sports, as a member of both the Women’s Basketball and Softball programs.
Allen, a guard, began the month as a key reserve in the Bulldogs’ run to the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Women’s Basketball Tournament.
In a 64-54 upset win over #2 seeded NYU-Poly on March 2nd, Allen provided solid minutes off the bench for #7 seed Brooklyn, adding two points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals in 19 minutes of action.
In the Bulldogs’ season-ending heartbreaking semifinals loss, in overtime, to #3 seeded Lehman College, 80-73, on March 5th, Allen produced an offensive spark for BC totaling 11 points doing most of her damage from beyond the arc hitting 3-of-6 from three. She also added three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Changing over from the hardwood to the diamond, Allen, a first basemen, continued her impressive month by posting a blistering .545 batting average (6-for-11), with 10 RBI, five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a home run, two walks and two stolen bases. She also posted a .571 on base and a 1.182 slugging percentage.
Allen’s highlight performance of the month on the field came in a recent doubleheader sweep over City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival John Jay College of Criminal Justice on March 28th, as she went a combined 4-for-5 (.800) at the plate in the twin bill with eight RBI, three runs scores, a double, a triple and a home run, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 9-2 win in the opener and a 12-4 (5 innings) win in the nightcap.
For her efforts against John Jay, Allen was named the CUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending April 3rd.
Allen’s success on the court and in the field has given her the right to be named the BC Female Student-Athlete of the Month, for the month of March.
