Sophomore Cheyne Tribbey had a strong month of April for the Brooklyn College Men’s Tennis team, as the Kailua, HI native posted a 5-1 record in singles play during the month, to go along with a 2-2 record in doubles action to help the Bulldogs clinch the #5 seed in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men’s Tennis Championships.
Coming in the first match of the month on April 3rd against CUNYAC rival York College, Tribbey picked up wins in both of his doubles and singles matches. Teaming up with partner Anthony Chan at #2 doubles, the duo edged out Erick Giron and Iheanyi Agbor, 8-6. Tribbey would later down Timoteo Baltazar, 6-0, 6-1, at #5 singles.
Tribbey would once again be victorious in singles play against Farmingdale State College on April 18th, defeating his opponent Sergio Rivera, 6-3, 7-5, at #6 singles.
The very next day, April 19th against borough rival St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn), Tribbey again won his doubles and singles matches. Coming at #3 doubles, Tribbey joined Mubashir Shabil Billah to breeze past Jan Rogowska and Simon Diaz, 8-0. Tribbey later cruised past Danny Zaretsky, 6-0, 6-0, at #3 singles.
Tribbey continued his stellar play in singles, downing Jiaqi Guan of the City College of New York (CCNY), 6-1, 6-0 at #3 singles on April 20th in vital CUNYAC match.
In the final match of the season, in the quarterfinals round of the conference championships on April 25th, Tribbey earned a solid 6-1, 6-1 win over the College of Staten Island’s Vladislav Romanov at #4 singles.
For his efforts during the month of April, Cheyne Tribbey has been named the Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month.
