BC Men Cruise Past Hunter, 88-73

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team (9-5, 5-1 CUNYAC) jumped out to an 18-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back, blowing past Hunter College (7-9, 3-2 CUNYAC) 88-73 on Saturday afternoon.

A Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) jumper 2:11 into the game, gave Brooklyn a 9-0 lead, and supplied an oddity in a basketball game, as each Brooklyn starter got into the scoring column before Hunter was able to earn their first points.

The Hawks were able to settle down a bit as they ended the half on a 10-2 run, to cut the Bulldogs' halftime advantage to six, 38-32.

Hunter then opened the second stanza with a three-pointer by Rocco Rubino, closing the lead to three, 38-35.  The two teams then traded backets, going back and forth for the following 12 minutes with Brooklyn's lead never falling below three or going above seven, until Amil John (South Shore / Brooklyn, NY) sparked 20-7 run, to give BC a commanding 17-point lead and clinching the victory.

Jean-Baptiste led the way for the Bulldogs, who had five players in double-figures, scoring 24 points.

Marlon Thornton (Richmond Hill / Brooklyn, NY) had a big game off the bench, scoring 12 points, while Darnell Cudjoe (Murry Bergtraum / Brooklyn, NY) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.

John was all over the stat sheet as well as he scored 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out five assists and nabbed 5 steals.

Brooklyn will head out on the road Monday as they travel to Widener University for a 2 pm tip.
