Women’s Tennis Falls to CSI, 6-3

Box Score

Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team dropped their final game of the 2010 regular season to CUNY Athletic Conference rival, the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, earlier today by the score of 6-3. The Bulldogs end their regular season with a 7-6 overall record, 5-4 in conference play; while the Dolphins finish the season at 11-5 overall, 8-1 in league play.

The teams competed in their original match back on Tuesday, October 12th, but was stopped due to inclement weather. However, both teams were able to get through doubles play before the rain came, with the Dolphins taking two of the three flights. Maria Sanz (Far Rockaway, NY/Bishop Ford) and Diana Derks (Frankfurt, Germany/Herlong) topped Stoyko and Kuna, 8-4, in No. 2 Doubles.

Continuing with singles play today, Staten Island picked up where they left off, as the hosts would take four of the six singles flights for the 6-3 win. Derks and Hadiya Cameron (Brooklyn, NY/Clara Barton) each took home victories on the day for Brooklyn at No. 3 and No.6 singles, respectively.

“I'm proud of the way we played today, even though we didn't get the win,” said Head Coach Ahmad Odetalla. “This match had a bit of a playoff feel to it, which helps us get ready for the CUNYAC tournament.”

The Bulldogs will await their opponent in the opening round of the CUNYAC tournament, which is set to begin on Tuesday, October 19th.
