Brooklyn, NY--- The Brooklyn College Bulldogs and the Bloodhounds of John Jay College were finally able to finish off their K-9 battle this afternoon at the BC Tennis Courts, after play was halted due to darkness back on September 29th at the York College Tennis Complex in Jamaica, NY. In the end, it was John Jay who would edge out Brooklyn, as the Bloodhounds downed the Bulldogs, 5-4. With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the CUNYAC; while John Jay improves to 4-6 overall, 4-2 in league play.
The original match, which was scheduled for September 28th was postponed to September 29th due to rain. Both teams would get through all doubles flights, but would only manage to finish a pair of singles matches before play was stopped due to darkness.
Prior to the stoppage, Brooklyn took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights and No. 6 singles, while John Jay was victorious in No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles. The team of
Maria Sanz (Far Rockaway, NY/Bishop Ford) and
Diana Derks (Frankfurt, Germany/Herlong) showed their mental toughness in No. 1 doubles, as the duo outfought the pairing of Elizabeth Cyran and Halam Katherine Seo, 8-6.
With Brooklyn leading 3-2 heading into the continuation match earlier today, it would be the Bloodhounds who came ready to play, taking three of the remaining four singles matches to take the 5-4 victory.
Diana Rafailova (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) took home to the lone win on the day, coming back to finish off her opponent Lauren Mallon, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in No. 3 singles.
Brooklyn will be back in action again tomorrow, Thursday, October 7th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the College of New Rochelle in a non-conference match-up at the BC Tennis Courts. Match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.
