Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team swept the Bears of Saint Joseph's College – Brooklyn in a non-conference match earlier today by the score of 9-0 on the BC Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bulldogs snap their four-match losing streak and improve their record to 4-5 on the season; while the Bears fall to 0-5 overall on the year.
Brooklyn began the match with singles play by taking all six flights. Senior captain
Diana Derks (Frankfurt, Germany/Herlong) and freshman
Gianna Gelosi (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) were impressive in No. 4 and 6 singles, respectively, as both players defeated their opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Derks continued her dominate play in doubles, teaming with partner
Maria Sanz (Far Rockaway, NY/Bishop Ford) to down the pairing of Elizabeth Shea and Elizabeth Stein, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles. The Bulldogs would take all three doubles matches on the day as well for the 9-0 sweep.
“I'm very proud of the way our team came out today and played,” said Head Coach
Ahmad Odetalla. “We needed this victory to help get us back on track, as we look to finish the season off strong and get ready for the conference tournament.”
Brooklyn is back in action tomorrow when the Bulldogs will take on the Yellow Jackets of City Tech in a CUNY Athletic Conference match-up. Match is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start on the BC Tennis Courts.
