Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team (18-6, 11-2 CUNYAC) dominated the College of Staten Island (11-13, 6-7 CUNYAC) from start to finish on Sunday afternoon at the West Quad Gymnasium, defeating the Dolphins by the score of 102-86.
Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Queens, NY) knocked down a three-pointer at the 12:06 mark of the first hafl, giving his team a 21-10 lead. WIth the basket, Jean-Baptiste surpassed
Rich Micallef (1980-1984) to become Brooklyn College's All-Time Leading Scoring, with 1,741 points for his career. Jean-Baptiste went on to score 20 for the game, bringing his career total to 1,752.
The Bulldogs were able to extend their first half lead to as many as 22 points four times during the stanza, and went to the locker room on a
Daniel Nisbett (Petrides / Staten Island, NY) three-pointer as time expired to extend the lead back to 22, 53-31.
The second half so a lot of back and forth play as Brooklyn ballooned the lead to as many as 26, however the Dolphis made a run of their own and were able to cut the lead all the way to 12, 91-79 with 4:34 remaining. After the teams traded baskets, another Nisbett three-pointer opened the lead back to 15, and took all hope away from the upstart CSI squad.
Thomas Guerin (St. Edmund Prep / Brooklyn, NY) came up big for BC in the win, leading the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points, which leaves him just five shy of 1,000 for his career.
Darnell Cudjoe (Murray Bergtraum / Brooklyn, NY) had a big double-double, notching 17 points, while shooting 60%, and adding14 rebounds.
The Dolphins were led by Jordan Young (Wall, Wall, NJ), who had 20 points and 11 caroms on the day.
The win clinches the #2 seed for Brooklyn in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament which begins next Saturday. While the opponent has yet to be determined, the first round game will be played at 1pm in the West Quad Gymnasium at Brooklyn College.
The BC men will play in a women's and men's basketball doubleheader on Tuesday, February 16. The women tip off at 6 pm against Briarcliffe and the men at 8 pm against Yeshiva. The evening will be Senior Night as the seniors from both squads will be recognized in the final regular season home games of the season.
