Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team (14-10) dropped a pair of non-league games to New Jersey City University (11-13) on Wednesday afternoon at the Monsignor Crawford Athletic Field in Brooklyn by scores of 5-3 and 10-2 (in five innings).
Errors would be a common theme for the Bulldogs in both games, as they committed six in the first game and three in the second.
Pitcher
Nicole Barrasso (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY) was solid in her appearance, pitching all seven innings of the first game and giving up just three earned runs. With the loss, her record drops to 11-9 on the season. The Brooklyn offense was held to just three runs by Ashley O'Beirne (Immaculate Conception / Wood-Ridge, NY) of NJCU. She pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on eight hits and adding three strikeouts.
The Bulldog offense fizzled in the afternoon opener, scattering eight hits in seven innings.
Danielle Maresca (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) continued her tear, hitting a home run in her first at bat.
Jenna Ferrara (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) posted the other two RBI for the team on a ground out to second in the second inning and a single in the fourth.
Megan Ginter (Nutley / Nutley, NJ) and Stephanie Gomez (Belleville / Belleville, NJ) each went 2-4 with an RBI to lead the attack for the Gothic Knights and each also added a stolen base.
In the night cap, Brooklyn was able to keep the game close until the flood gates opened for NJCU in the sixth inning. The Gothic Knights were able to score 10 runs, with seven in the sixth, on just six hits. Taylor Lang (Carteret / Carteret, NJ) led the charge, going 2-4 with three RBI. Pitcher Tara Perucci (Wallington / Wallington, NJ) controlled the Bulldog batters, giving up two runs on eight hits in six innings.
Norah Marley (Bishop Kearney / Brooklyn, NY),
Antoinette Brown (Bishop Kearney / Brooklyn, NY), and Maresca all had two hits for the Bulldogs, who had nine runners left on base in the game.
Brooklyn will play their third straight double header tomorrow, Thursday, April 15, at Monsignor Crawford Field against St. Joseph's - Brooklyn starting at 4:00 pm.
