Box Score (Game 2)

Newark, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Softball team split a non-conference double-header against the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark this evening at Alumni Field. The Bulldogs dropped the opener 10-0, but bounced back to take game two, 15-9. Brooklyn is now 9-5 on the year, while the Scarlet Raiders move to 8-10 overall on the season.

Freshman hurler Angela Riscinti (5-5) silenced the Bulldogs offense in game one, tossing a complete game shut out, allowing just two hits, while walking one and striking out four.

Riscinti received all the run support she would need in the first inning, as Rutgers-Newark plated four runs in the opening frame. The home team would tack on another six in the second, as the Scarlet Raiders cruised to the 10-0 victory.

Amber Affholter led the Rutgers-Newark offense going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Ashley Angeli also went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The Brooklyn bats would awaken in the nightcap, as the Bulldogs offense exploded for 15 runs on 16 hits. Down 9-8 after five innings, Brooklyn used a seven-run rally in the top of the sixth to re-take the lead for good and come out on top 15-9. Rutgers-Newark used a seven-run rally of its own in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-7 lead.

Freshman Norah Marley (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) helped set the pace for Brooklyn going 2-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. Marley's big hit came in the top of the second, when she blasted a three-run home run over the right centerfield wall. The Bulldogs would tack on two more runs in the second to take an early 7-1 lead.

Adding to the offensive punch were sophomores Samantha Lombardi (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) and Antoinette Brown (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and senior Jenna Ferrara (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison), who all drove in two runs apiece. Ferrara was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3. Junior Danielle Maresca (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) made the most of her on-base opportunities, as she scored four runs, while going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sophomore ace Nicole Barrasso (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) (8-5) would avenge her loss in the opener and take home the victory in game two, going seven full innings, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, while walking four and striking out one. Barrasso's counterpart, Samantha Veneziano (3-4) took the loss, giving up 15 runs (13 earned) on 16 hits, walking seven and striking out one.

BC is back in action this Wednesday, April 7th, as the Bulldogs will host CUNYAC foe Lehman College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Monsignor Crawford Field.
