Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team swept a CUNYAC doubleheader from the Lightning of Lehman College this afternoon at Monsignor Crawford Field, taking game one by a score of 12-2 and game two by a score of 16-5. With the wins, the Bulldogs improve to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the CUNYAC, while the Lightning fall to 2-13 on the year and 0-6 in the conference.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Nicole Barrasso (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) once again for the Bulldogs in the opener going five innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out four. Her counterpart, Natalie Martinez took the loss allowing 12 runs (eight earned) on nine hits, while surrendering six walks and striking out one.
Brooklyn would score at least one run in every inning, highlighted by a five-run third inning. Reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week,
Tess Studholme (Kent, England/Notre Dame) helped carry the offensive load once again, as she drove home four runs going 2-for-3.
The nightcap featured more of the same, as Barrasso and Martinez dueled on the mound again. Barrasso (10-5) went five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits, walking three and striking out four, on route to her second victory of the day. Martinez (1-8) took her second loss on the afternoon, tossing four innings, allowing 16 runs (nine earned) on 17 hits, walking three and fanning two.
Studholme once again carried the Bulldogs offense going 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. Studholme doubled home freshman
Norah Marley (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney), who singled to start off the first inning, and later cracked a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth, which also plated Marley. Studholme's long ball began a five-run rally in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Senior
Jenna Ferrara (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore
Samantha Lombardi (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) also went 3-for-4 scoring three times.
Brooklyn returns to action this Friday, April 9th, as the Bulldogs will battle the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Monsignor Crawford Field.
