Box Score (Game 2)

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team split a CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice this afternoon at Monsignor Crawford Athletic Field. The Bulldogs took the opener 4-3, while John Jay took the nightcap 18-10. Brooklyn is now 12-6 on the season and 7-3 in the CUNYAC, while the Bloodhounds move to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

Sophomore Samantha Lombardi (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) got the Bulldogs on the board early with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first that scored freshman Norah Marley (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney).

Senior Jenna Ferrara (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) plated the second run of the game via a solo homerun in the bottom of the second. Brooklyn would add two more runs in the inning to take an early 4-0 lead on RBI singles from junior Danielle Maresca (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and sophomore Tess Studholme (Kent, England/Notre Dame).

The Bloodhounds would answer with a run in the third and two more in the fifth, but that's as close as John Jay would get, as the visitors were unable to score the tying run despite numerous chances. John Jay would leave the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Sophomore ace Nicole Barrasso (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) notched her 11th win on the season, going the full seven innings, allowing three runs on 13 hits, while giving up two walks and striking out three. Her counterpart Angela Lam took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, while walking one and striking out two over six innings.

The nightcap featured offensive fireworks as the teams combined for 28 runs on 30 hits. Both teams also had a few defensive miscues, combining for 10 errors.

Down 9-1 heading into its half of the third inning, the Bulldogs looked to claw their way back into the game with a five-run third inning. Marley's two-run single and Ashley Allen's (Sunnyside, NY/William C. Bryant) RBI double keyed the rally. Brooklyn would then tie the game at 9 apiece with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a Ferrera RBI double and a Barrasso RBI single.

The Bloodhounds would then score nine runs in the top of the fifth aided by three Brooklyn errors to put the game out of reach at 18-9.

Barrasso (11-6) took the loss surrendering 18 runs (13 earned) on 17 hits, while walking five over five innings. Nina Chao (2-0) picked up the win in relief tossing two innings, giving up a pair of runs (one earned) on three hits, walking two and striking out one.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 10th, as Brooklyn will host the College of New Rochelle in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
