Box Score
Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team (3-2) was defeated by Kean University (5-1) on Thursday afternoon by a 9-0 score. The loss was the Bulldogs second shortcoming of the season.
Kean began the match by taking all three doubles matches with relative ease, winning 8-1, 8-0 & 8-0. Lisette LaForge (Roselle Park / Roselle Park, NJ) and Debra Dress (Spotswood / Spotswood, NJ) teamed up at #1 doubles to knock off Brooklyn's duo of
Maria Sanz (Bishop Ford / Brooklyn, NY) and
Diana Derks (Herlong / Franfurt, Germany) by an 8-1 score.
Laforge and Derks would go on to play the match of the day in #2 singles. After Laforge took the first set 6-2, Derks battled back in set two to force a tiebreaker, which she won 7-1, taking the set 7-6. Laforge bounced back in the third as she took a 10-0 tiebreak to win the match.
The Cougars took each of the other singles matches in straight sets, earning the non-conference win over the home Bulldogs.
"I was proud of the way our team battled today," said Head Coach
Ahmad Odetalla. "While the score did not reflect it, I thought we played well and did not back down."
The Bulldogs will look to show some bite tomorrow as they resume conference play with a road match against CUNYAC rival York College at 4:00 pm.
