Jamaica, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team dropped a CUNY Athletic Conference match earlier today, falling to the host York College Cardinals by a score of 7-2. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to an even 3-3 on the season, 2-1 in the CUNYAC; while the Cardinals improve to 6-5 overall on the year, 5-3 in the CUNYAC.

Maria Sanz (Far Rockaway, NY/Bishop Ford) and senior captain
Diana Derks (Frankfurt, Germany/Herlong) each took home victories in singles action. Sanz downed Nicole Jones at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4, while Derks got the best of Allana Wilson at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3.
At the start of the match, Sanz and Derks teamed up at No. 1 doubles, falling to the pairing of Jones and Amba Chanoine in a tight battle, 8-5. Number 2 doubles also featured a close contest that saw the duo of sophomore
Diana Rafailova (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and freshman
Gianna Gelosi (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) being edged by the team of Wilson and Nina Olladikankwu, 8-6.
“We didn't play nearly as well as we are capable of playing,” stated Head Coach
Ahmad Odetalla. “When we win, it is because of our focus and determination to win, but we lacked that mindset today.”
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday, September 28th, when Brooklyn will be back on the road to take on the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC battle. Match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
