Game Two Box Score
Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team (3-8-1, 2-1-1 CUNYAC) played tough in a conference doubleheader on Friday, as they dropped an 8-3 decision in the first game against Hunter (5-1-2, 1-0-2 CUNYAC), but then came back in the second game to tie the Hawks, 9-9.
Game two saw Brooklyn come back to tie the game on three occasions as in each of the first three innings, Hunter scored in the top half of the frame, only for the Bulldogs to tie the game in the bottom half of each inning.
In the first, Hunter used a couple of walks and some clutch hitting to put up four runs on the board off Brooklyn starter
Marie Oneto.
BC came right back in the 2nd to put up a four-spot of their own as
Norah Marley walked to start the game, and the next four Bulldogs batters each followed with hits. With two on and two out,
Meagan Cranston got a RBI single to knot the score at four.
The Hawks got another leadoff walk in the second, which led to three runs this time, as doubles by Arielle Zieff and Angelica Iacovetti were keys in the rally.
Brooklyn again came back with three runs of their own to tie the game in the second as
Allison Donovan drove in a run with a single and then
Samantha Lombardi drove in two runs with a double.
Hunter got the lead right back in the top of the third, scoring their two runs, capped off by an RBI single by shortstop Megan McKenna.
Once again the Bulldogs showed no quit as
Stephanie Caravello's big RBI single sparked a two-run rally to tie the game after three.
Oneto began to settle down at that point and did not allow a run for the remainder of the game. Hunter brought Iacovetti in to pitch for Amanda Annicaro and she did not yield a run for the remainder as well. Iacovetti pitched in game one and picked up the win.
Brooklyn did have a great scoring chance in the bottom of the fifth as they had runners on first and third with one out, however a popped up bunt by
Danielle Maresca on a suicide squeeze attempt led to an easy double play.
Game one saw Hunter take an early 3-0 lead and Iacovetti breezed through the BC lineup for most of the game, striking out 13 batters. Brooklyn did put up three runs over the final two innings to put some pressure on the Hawks, but it proved to be too little too late.
Iacovetti helped her own cause as she hit a towering solo home run in the third inning. Maresca was the offensive standout for the Bulldogs, as she went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Brooklyn will be back at Monsignor Crawford Field for a doubleheader against conference foe John Jay on Monday, March 28th at 3:30 pm.
