Bulldogs Sweep Gryphons 8-0, 13-1, Behind 7 RBI Day From Allen

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team swept Sunday's doubleheader over Sarah Lawrence 8-0, 13-1, to climb their overall record to over.500 for the first time all season, 13-12-1.  The Bulldogs got great pitching performances from their top two starters, as well as a seven-RBI day from senior Ashley Allen.  With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 4-4 on the season.

In game one, Brooklyn starter Marie Oneto struck out nine batters, while giving up seven hits and not allowing a run in five innings of work to earn the win.  While Oneto did allow some base runners, she worked her way out of trouble each time, earning the shutout.

Allen had the first big hit of the day as she singled in two runs in the bottom of the second to give BC the early advantage.  Antoinette Brown would follow with a double to score Allen, and then Brown would later score on a wild pitch as Brooklyn would get four runs in the inning.

In the bottom or the fourth inning, after a Norah Marley single, Danielle Maresca would hit a blast over the left field fence for a two-run home run, her second of the season.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, with one run already in, Allen doubled into left center, scoring Meagan Cranston, and ending the game 8-0.  Allen finished the game two for three with three RBI.

In game two, the offense got going even more while Tara Diesel turned in a solid pitching performance, holding Sarah Lawrence to four hits and one run.

The Gryphons got on the board in the top of the first as Brooklyn catcher made an errant throw after fielding a bunt, allowing a runner to score all the way from first.

The Bulldogs would strike right back as Diesel helped her own cause with an RBI single to score Stephanie Caravello and tie the game at one.

After an easy top-half of the inning, Brooklyn would break the game open in the second, scoring seven runs, getting a three-run inside the park home run from Caravello, and then a solo blast from Allison Donovan over the left field fence.

Allen was again in the middle of things as she drove in the first run of the inning with a single and then later came around to score on a Lissette Andares triple. Allen would add an RBI single in the third and then drive in two with a double in the fourth, completing a three for three, four RBI game.

Donovan would also finish the game a perfect three for three, while Caravello went two for four with three runs batted in.

Brooklyn will head out on the road tomorrow for a 1:30pm start to their final conference doubleheader of the season against Staten Island.
