Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team dropped its final two City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) games of the season against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a doubleheader earlier today at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY, by scores of 9-1 and 12-4.

With the losses, the Bulldogs fall to 13-14-1 overall on the season and finish the regular season with a 8-5-1 record in conference play; while the Dolphins improve to 15-8 overall on the year and remain perfect in league play at 7-0.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after three innings, plating a run in the bottom of the first and four more in the third.

The Bulldogs would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Stephanie Caravello that brought home Norah Marley to cut Brooklyn's deficit to 5-1. Marley singled up the middle to get on base, advanced to second on a pass ball and later advanced to third on a groundout to get into scoring position.

CSI would tack on two more runs in both the fourth and sixth, as the game would end via run rule 9-1. Danielle Ponsiglione was nearly unhittable for the Dolphins, tossing a complete game, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out six over six innings.

Brooklyn came out strong in the nightcap scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the inning, as Marley was hit by a pitch, Danielle Maresca singled and Tara Diesel walked. Allison Donovan brought home the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly that plated Marley. Katherine Fuentes followed with an RBI single up the middle that scored Maresca.

BC's lead would not last long, however, as the Dolphins quickly answered with three runs in their half of the first to take a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs would tie the game at 3 all in the second on an RBI single from Maresca that scored Ashley Allen, who led off the inning with a double to left center and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. Allen would help Brooklyn regain the lead in the third on an RBI single up the middle that scored Jordan Villany, who came into the game as a pinch runner for Diesel, who led off the inning with a single to get on base. Maresca and Allen each finished with two hits in the game.

Trailing 4-3, entering into their half of the third, CSI would again retake the lead, as the Dolphins exploded with six runs on five hits in the inning, to take a 9-4 lead. CSI would later tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game by run rule, 12-4.

Ponsiglione picked up her second win of the day, as she came into the game in relief, pitching the final three innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits and striking out two.

Brooklyn returns to action on Friday, April 22nd, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Fighting Blue Jays of NYU-Poly in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
