Game Two Box Score
Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team (7-10-1) had their four-game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs ran into an equally hot Old Westbury team, who were winners of seven of their last eight entering the day, dropping the doubleheader, 13-5, 7-1.
After two complete scoreless innings in game one, the visiting Panthers got on the board in the top of the third with a huge four-run, two-out rally. Jennifer Jean and Alyssa Clancy had the big blows, as they put together consecutive two-run doubles.
The Bulldog bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Tara Diesel knocked in two runs with a double of her own, and then
Ashley Allen's big RBI single went through rightfielder Alex Heaney's legs, allowing Meagan Cranston to score as well, tying the game at four.
Old Westbury would not hesitate to recapture the lead, as they immediately loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, and Clancy unloaded them with a triple off the fence to give her team the three-run advantage. Clancy would later come around to score on a fielder's choice, upping the Panther lead to 8-4.
The Panthers added two in the sixth and three in the seventh, while Brooklyn could only muster a single run in the seventh, falling for the first time in two weeks.
In game two, the Panthers jumped on the new Brooklyn starter
Tara Diesel early, hitting a solo and two-run home runs in the first inning to grab a 3-1 lead.
Stephanie Caravello, who had a team-high five hits on the day, singled in the third and later came around to score on a wild pitch to get her team on the board, but that is all the offense Brooklyn would produce, falling in the nightcap.
While Diesel did give up seven runs, she did strike out five batters in the rain-shortened five inning game. Denise Zajonc earned the win for Old Westbury, allowing three hits, while walking three and striking out three.
The Bulldogs will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they travel to the College of New Rochelle for a 1pm start.
