Staten Island, NY --- The #4 Brooklyn College Softball team had their CUNYAC Championship run ended on day one, as the Bulldogs fell to the #3 seeded Hunter College Hawks, by a score of 3-2 this afternoon, at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.
Brooklyn was playing in the first elimination game of the championships due to its 10-2 loss to top seed and host College of Staten Island in the first game of the day, while Hunter was in the elimination game due to their loss to #2 Baruch College in the second game of the day.
The Hawks will now advance to day two of the double elimination tournament, tomorrow, Saturday, May 7th, as Hunter will take on the loser between Staten Island and Baruch.
Hunter got on the board early scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of a Brooklyn fielding error, to take a 2-0 lead. Arielle Zieff had the big hit of the inning with an RBI single to right center, scoring Julia Lipovac. Molly Meehan plated the first run of the game scoring on an RBI groundout from Megan McKenna.

Ashley Allen blasted an RBI double to right center that brought home freshman
Allison Donovan. Donovan led off the inning with a single.
The Hawks would load the bases in the bottom of the third looking to break the game open, as Lipovac, McKenna and Josephine Estevez all singled to reach base. However, Hunter would manage just one run on a sacrifice fly from Sophia Ponce, which scored Lipovac, giving the Hawks a 3-1 lead.
The game would remain 3-1 until freshman
Tara Diesel blasted a solo homerun to lead off the top of the sixth, making it 3-2 in favor of the Hawks. Diesel's long ball immediately led to a Hunter pitching change, as Angel Iacovetti came into the game to relieve starter Amanda Annicaro. Iacovetti shut down the Bulldogs the rest of the way to pick up the save, tossing two flawless innings, striking out four of the six batters she faced in the game. Annicaro took picked up the win, going five strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and walking two.
Brooklyn starter freshmen
Marie Oneto pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits, while also walking two.
Donovan went 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored for BC.
Hunter's Crissette Maxwell was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3, while Lipovac scored a pair of runs.
