West Haven, CT --- The Brooklyn College Softball team split a non-conference doubleheader this evening against Albertus Magnus College in West Haven, CT. The Bulldogs won the opening game 8-3; while the Falcons took the second game 5-1.

BC is now 11-11 overall on the season, while Albertus Magnus moves to 12-16 overall on the year.

Coming in the opening game, Brooklyn got on the board early on a two-run homerun to center field in the top of the first from Maria Mantagas that scored Meagan Cranston. The Bulldogs would add two more runs in the top of the third. An RBI double from Stephanie Caravello plated Cranston to put BC up 3-0, while Caravello would come around to score the fourth run of the game on a costly error by the Falcons.

Albertus Magnus would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit to 4-1; however, an Allison Donovan RBI single in the top of the fifth that scored pinch runner Marie Oneto put the Bulldogs back up by four runs, 5-1.

The Falcons would add another run in their half of the fifth to make it 5-2 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs; however, BC would answer again with a three run sixth to go up 8-2, their largest lead of the game. Caravello's RBI single brought home Kim Konklewski for the first run of the inning, while Mantagas' two-run double later drove home both Caravello and Cranston to cap off the rally.

Albertus Magnus added its third and final run in the seventh, but that's as close as the Falcons would get, as starting pitcher Oneto went the distance to close out the game and improve to 9-5 on the season.

Oneto allowed three runs on six hits, while giving up two walks and striking out four over seven innings of work. Her counterpart, Danielle Thuerling (8-13) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 13 hits, while walking one and striking out nine over seven innings.

Cranston and Mantagas helped fuel the offense, as the duo each batted 3-for-4. Cranston added three runs scored, while Mantagas contributed with four RBI and a runs scored. Konklewski and Caravello also had multi-hit games, as both players went 2-for-4. Caravello chipped in with two RBI and two runs scored.

Coming in the nightcap, the Bulldogs would strike in the opening inning again, as Caravello's RBI sacrifice fly scored Konklewski, who tripled to lead off the game. Konklewski would finish the game going 3-for-4.

The Falcons would answer quickly with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Albertus Magnus would add another run in the second to go ahead 2-1, before capitalizing on three BC errors in the third that allowed the home Falcons to plate three runs en route to taking a commanding 5-1 lead.

Neither team would score again the rest of the way, as Albertus Magnus would go on to take the game 5-1 and earn the split.

Following a loss in the opening game, Thuerling bounced back in the nightcap to silence the Brooklyn bats, allowing just one run on seven hits, while walking one and striking out seven over seven innings to improve to 9-13 on the season.

Her counterpart, Tara Diesel (0-4), allowed five runs (two earned) on just two hits, while walking four and striking out five in six innings.
