Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team swept the Cardinals of York College this afternoon at Monsignor Crawford Field, in the final City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) doubleheader for both teams. The Bulldogs took the first game 9-0 and the second game 11-3.
BC improves to 15-13 overall on the season and finishes the regular season with a an even 6-6 record in conference play, while the Cardinals fall to 5-19 overall and 1-11 in league play.
Brooklyn has now locked up the #4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will host a first round game on Wednesday, May 2nd.
Coming in the first game, starting hurler
Marie Oneto (11-7) was nearly unhittable for Brooklyn, as the sophomore racked up 12 strikeouts over five innings to register the complete game shutout. Oneto allowed just three hits in the outing.
The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings, one run in the third and three more runs in the fourth to go up 8-0 and end the game via run rule.
Leading the way for BC on offense were sophomores
Stephanie Caravello and
Tara Diesel. Caravello went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, while Diesel also added 3 RBI going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Juniors
Kim Konklewski and
Norah Marley and sophomore
Meagan Cranston also had multi-hit games in the opener.
Michelle DeLeon took the loss for York, as she allowed eight runs on 11 hits, while giving up five walks and striking out two over four innings.
The second game featured much of the same, as the Brooklyn bats continued to feast on the Cardinals pitching, which saw the Bulldogs go on to take an 11-3 victory, ending the game via run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Caravello led the way again, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while classmate
Allison Donovan went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. Marley also had a multi-hit game. Konklewski and
Maria Mantagas each scored a pair of runs in the nightcap.
Oneto pitched the first three innings of game two to improve to 12-7 overall on the season, allowing just one hit to go along with two strikeouts. Diesel finished the game tossing the final two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, while walking two and striking out three.
Krystina Rivera and Evelyn Florentino each drove in a run for the Cardinals.
Kimberly Barnes (3-7) took the loss surrendering 11 runs (three earned) on 12 hits, while striking out one in four innings.
Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, April 21st, as the Bulldogs will travel to Long Island, NY to take on Briarcliffe College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm
