Softball Sweeps New Rochelle On Senior Day

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball team played its final regular season home doubleheader on Friday afternoon, beating the visiting College of New Rochelle Blue Angels in both games of the non-conference twin bill by identical 9-1 scores. The wins put the Bulldogs above the .500 mark at 17-15, while the losses dropped the Blue Angels to 1-22 on the season.

Sophomore pitcher Marie Oneto started both games for Brooklyn and did not yield a run while on the pitcher's circle to earn both wins and improve to 14-8 on the season.

BC scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and four more runs in the second to take an early 5-0 advantage. After New Rochelle cut its deficit to 5-1 with a run of their own in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs tacked on three additional runs in the fourth and their final run in the fifth to make it 9-1, ending the game via run rule.

Sophomore Stephanie Caravello helped fuel the offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored.  Juniors Kim Konklewski and Norah Marley also had multi-hit games. Konklewski and freshman Geena Bell each had two runs scored.

Oneto and freshman Kimberly Brennan combined for the no-hitter silencing the New Rochelle bats.

Coming in the nightcap, senior Antoinette Brown went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored to help cap off a nine-run first inning for Brooklyn. Sophomore Meagan Cranston and freshman Maria Mantagas each drove home a pair of runs. Cranston and Konklewski also had two runs scored each, as the Bulldogs would end game two via run rule for the second time, 9-1 win.

Following the game, Brown, a four-year member of the BC Softball program was honored by the coaching staff and her teammates for her hard work and dedication to Brooklyn College Athletics as part of Senior Day festivities.

Brooklyn will travel to Patchogue, NY tomorrow, Saturday, April 28th, as the Bulldogs battle borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at the St. Josephs 's Patchogue campus field. First pitch is slated for 4:30 pm.
