Softball Swept By St. Joe’s (BK)

Patchogue, NY --- The Brookln College Softball team concluded its 2012 regular season dropping a pair of games to borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at the SJC Outdoor Complex on the campus of St. Joe's (Long Island). The Bulldogs lost game one 4-2 and later fell in game two 8-3. The Bulldogs finish their season with an even 17-17 record, while the Lady Bears improve to 21-10.

In the opening game, BC struck first scoring a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout from Stephanie Caravello that drove home Kim Konklewski to put the Bulldogs on the board.

St. Joe's (BK) would answer quickly with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, as Lisa Scheer's RBI double to left center plated Danielle Marino to tie the game at 1-1.

The game would remain 1-1 until the top of the sixth, when Allison Donovan brought home Meagan Cranston to give the visiting Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage. However, the Lady Bears would answer once again, utilizing a three-run sixth to take a 4-2 lead, which would be the eventual final score. Andrea Sideli had the big hit in the rally with her two-run single that scored Caitlyn Kakavas and Christina Quintana.

Alysone Chiaramonte (14-6) picked up the win tossing seven solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out six. Her counterpart, Marie Oneto (12-9) took the loss giving up four runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out three in six innings of work.

Coming in game two, the Lady Bears would strike early and often, as the home team opened with three runs in the bottom of the first and four more runs in the bottom of the third to build a 7-0 lead.

The Bulldogs would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth on a two-run single from Norah Marley that drove home both Katharine Fuentes and Donovan, cutting BC's deficit to 7-2. However, that's as close as Brooklyn would get, as St. Joe's (BK) would go on to the 8-3 victory complete the doubleheader sweep.

Marley, Caravello, Maria Mantagas and Donovan all had multi-hit games for BC.

For the Lady Bears, Jackie Perillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and a runs scored, while Sideli drove home two runs. Millicia Malvasio, Marino and Scheer all had three hits in the game for St. Joe's (BK).

Scheer (7-4) earned the win for the Lady Bears allowing three runs (two earned) on 10 hits, while giving up three walks and striking out six over seven innings.

Brooklyn's Kimberly Brennan (3-3) took the loss allowing seven runs (two earned) on 11 hits, while surrendering one walk and striking out two in just 2.2 innings of work. Tara Diesel finished the game for BC, allowing one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out five in 3.1 innings.

With the regular season now concluded, Brooklyn will turn its attention to the 2012 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Softball Championships, as the #4 seeded Bulldogs will play host to the #5 seeded Lehman College Lightning in the First Round on Wednesday, May 2nd. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Monsignor Crawford Field located on Avenue U and East 59th Street in Brooklyn.
