Softball Eyes CUNYAC Championship Run

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team is set to begin its run at a conference championship, as the Bulldogs enter the 2012 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Applebee's Softball Championships as the #4 seed. BC will play host to the #5 seed Lehman College Lightning in the First Round on Wednesday, May 2nd at Monsignor Crawford Field, located on Avenue U and East 59th Street in Brooklyn. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

The winner of Wednesday's first round game will advance to the double elimination round of the championships, which will begin on Friday, May 4th at the College of Staten Island. The Brooklyn/Lehman winner will face top seed and host CSI at 12:00 pm.

The Bulldogs and Lightning split their regular season doubleheader back on April 9th, as BC took the opener 7-0; while Lehman came back to earn the split with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.

In her first season in Brooklyn, junior center fielder Kim Konklewski made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs at the leadoff spot this year, batting .456 (52-for-114) with a team-high 25 runs scored and 18 RBI. Konklewski ranks near the top of the CUNYAC in various statistical categories including batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, triples, total basses, stolen bases and runs scored.

Sophomores short stop Allison Donovan, right fielder Meagan Cranston and first baseman Stephanie Caravello have also been key figures to the BC offense. Donovan is batting .348 (32-for-92) with 19 runs scored and 14 RBI, while Cranston is hitting .320 (33-for-103) with 22 runs scored and 14 RBI. Donovan is ranked in the top-10 in the CUNYAC in batting average, doubles, walks and on-base percentage. Caravello is batting .316 (31-for-98) with a team leading 29 RBI and 24 runs scored. Caravello is among the top players in the CUNYAC in RBI and doubles.

Freshman third baseman Maria Mantagas has had a strong rookie campaign registering 20 RBI on the season, while ranking in the top-five in the CUNYAC in doubles.

Junior second baseman Norah Marley has also been solid for the Bulldogs, while senior catcher Antoinette Brown has provided veteran leadership behind the plate.

Sophomore starting pitcher Marie Oneto has been the ace of the staff posting a 14-9 record with a 2.25 ERA. Oneto has been one of the top pitchers in the CUNYAC this season, ranking first in the conference in appearances, games started, wins and innings pitched, while ranking second in strikeouts and third in both shutouts and complete games. She is also holding opposing batters to a league best .254 (147-for-579) batting average.
