Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team gave their fans something to cheer about on Thursday evening as they battled back from a two set deficit to take the next two sets and force a deciding fifth, but their comeback was thwarted by the visiting College of New Rochelle who took the decision, 25-22, 25-18, 28-30, 21-25, 15-9.
While the first set was close the entire way, the Blue Angels never trailed after taking an early 2-0 lead. Brooklyn was able to tie the set at 10 after a
Jillian Escobar ace but that was as close as they would get in the set.
Set two saw the Bulldogs regroup and take an early 7-0 lead behind the serving of
Kathy Chu, but New Rochelle quickly turned it around with a 16-3 run to take a commanding 16-10 lead and eventually the set.
The third set saw the most exciting action of the evening as the visiting Blue Angels battled to tie the score at 15 after falling behind by as many as six points early. That was the first of 10 times the score would be tied in the set as the teams battled and BC tried to avoid the three set sweep. With the score tied at 28, a New Rochelle error gave Brooklyn the lead, and then Escobar captured the set with a powerful kill bringing the Bulldogs to within a set, 2-1.
After falling behind early, Brooklyn came back in the fourth set to take a pretty comfortable 19-13 lead and then win 25-21 behind Escobar's three kills.
BC seemingly had the momentum and appeared to be the stronger team as set five began and immediately jumped to a 1-0 lead on a spectacular set by Chu and kill by Escobar, but the pesky Blue Angels fought right back to take a 6-2 advantage, keyed by the serving of Christine Biskup.
BC showed their heart once again as they fought back to tie at six in front of the home crowd. New Rochelle showed their own toughness as they came back with five stright points to take an 11-6 lead and cruise to the 15-9 victory in the set.
Escobar had a huge match for Brooklyn, with 15 kills, nine aces and nine digs. Chu led all players with 30 assists in defeat.
The Blue Angels were led by Meghan King's 11 kills.
The Bulldogs will begin CUNYAC action on Saturday as they take on two of the conference's top squads in the multimatch at York College, facing Baruch at 11:30 and Hunter at 1:30.
