Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team defeated the Panthers of Purchase College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21), on Wednesday night at the West Quad Center in a non-conference match.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-11 overall on the season, while the Panthers fall to 4-8 overall on the year.
Leading the way for BC was reigning City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, freshman
Julia Bogdan as the Staten Island native tallied a match-high eight kills on the night.
Freshman
Francesca LoCascio added six kills on an impressive .455 hitting percentage, while seniors
Jillian Escobar and
Manon Bailly finished the match with five kills apiece. Escobar led the team with eight digs. Freshman
Crystal Wu paced the offense with a match-best 22 assists.
For Purchase, Cathryn Mulvey and Alicia McCarthy each recorded six kills, while Olivia Schoeller dished out 13 assists. LeiAnna Frazier chipped in with 10 digs.
The opening set saw a tight see-saw battle, as the teams combined for five ties and two lead changes. After the Panthers tied the match at 8-8 early on, the Bulldogs rushed out on a 9-0 run to go ahead 17-8, behind the serving of Wu. BC would eventually go on to take a 25-14 win to go up 1-0.
In the second set, Brooklyn used a strong hitting percentage to pull out a 25-19 victory, as the Bulldogs posted a .357 average on 11 kills, 1 error and 28 total attacks, to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set was the closest of the night, as the Panthers sought to force a fourth set. However, after Purchase tied the game at 21 all, BC rattled off the final four points of the set to close out the match, 25-21, to earn the straight sets sweep.
Brooklyn will be back in action on Monday, October 14th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Hunter College to participate in the second and final CUNYAC Multi-Match of the season. BC will take on York College (8:00 am) and the College of Staten Island (10:00 am).
