Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team had their Four-Game winning streak snapped in game one of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader, falling 3-2 to Rutgers Newark, however the Bulldogs bounced back in game two to take a 6-2 win in the snow at Brooklyn College Field. The split brings BC's record to 5-1, while the Scarlet Raiders are 1-1 as today was their first action of the 2013 season.
For the third consecutive day the team saw action on their home field in less than optimal weather conditions, but today may have been the most tricky as some light snow was scattered throughout the day and came down steadily during game two of the double-dip.
The Bulldogs did not seem to be bothered by the cold as they held the Scarlet Raiders scoreless through the first three innings of game one. Rutgers would break out in the fourth, getting an RBI single from second baseman Vanessa Romero that scored two runs as BC leftfielder
Becky Ganley misplayed the ball allowing the second run to cross the plate.
The Scarlet Raiders added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, going up 3-0, before Brooklyn finally got on the board in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs, as
Samantha Rodriguez' triple scored
Kayla Hill. Rodgriguez then scored on an
Amanda Bisz sacrifice fly.
Rutgers Newark's Liane Drastal would bear down and get out of the jam and then pitch as scoreless seventh to record the win. BC pitcher
Kayla Hill would fall for the first time this season, falling to 2-1.
In game two, after falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Brooklyn bats came alive against the pitching tandem of Brianna Alicchio and Allie Ronchi, scoring six unanswered runs over the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
The big hit came off the bat of shortstop
Allison Donovan, an RBI double in the gap which scored Bisz. Donovan came around to score on a wild pitch for her second run scored of the game.
Bisz, who saw her second action from the pitcher's circle this season, was outstanding, yielding only five hits and two walks to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Brooklyn will get two off days before hosting non-conference opponent Old Westbury on Tuesday at 4 pm for a scheduled doubleheader. The Panthers are currently 4-2 on the season and are one of the top teams on BC's non-league schedule.
