Box Score 2 Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team opened City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play on Tuesday afternoon by sweeping a doubleheader against the Lightning of Lehman College. The Bulldogs took game one 7-0 and game two 17-1.
With the wins, BC moves to 8-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in the CUNYAC; while Lehman drops to 0-3 overall on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
Sophomore
Kayla Hill helped propel the visitors to victory in the opener with her arm and her bat, as Hill tossed a complete game shutout to silence the Lightning bats. Hill surrendered just one hit and a walk, while striking out 12 Lehman batters in seven innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the year. To go along with her stellar pitching performance, Hill also belted a two-run homerun to left field in the top of the sixth to cap off the BC scoring. Senior
Kim Konklewski finished the game going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while junior
Amanda Bisz also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Cynthia Vasquez had Lehman's lone hit in the game, while Sheila San Andres took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, while giving up five walks and striking out one over seven innings.
In game two, the BC bats exploded for 17 runs on 18 hits; as the Bulldogs would go on to take a 17-1 win, ending the game in the fifth via run rule.
Freshman
Samantha Rodriguez, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, continued her solid play going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Junior
Allison Donovan drove in three runs going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Marley also drove in three runs going 2-for-2 at the plate. Sophomore
Becky Ganley and Bisz both drove in two runs each, as both went 2-for-3.
Bisz picked up the win in the second game, improving to 3-1 on the year, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out nine in five innings of work. San Andres would take the loss again in game two.
Jesley Cox and Janet Ortiz each had a hit for the Lightning, as Cox's RBI single drove home Ortiz in the fourth.
Brooklyn will return to the diamond tomorrow, Wednesday, March 27th, as the Bulldogs will be on the road again to take on the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in another CUNYAC matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Randall's Island (Field #16).
